Gettin’ Out and Gettin’ Up
The storm hit, and it hit big. Over 2 feet in 24 hours.
I would apologize for not posting much this week, but I would be apologizing for skiing 4 of the last 5 days, and that’s something that just isn’t gonna happen.
As expected, I’ve been hiking snowbowl before work, and hitting up the nordic center for some primo skate skiing the last couple days.
Everyone bailed wednesday morning, so it was a solo run up snowbowl before work for the first human-powered vertical this year for me in arizona. The snow was heavy, so the skinning was was slow, but I made it up in halfway decent time for the first of many dawn patrol sessions.
Grooming was intermittent, but I got some fresh corduroy and some fresh thigh-burning powder.
It was good enough to convince Curtis and Ben to head up with me on thursday morning. I had a few extra moments to snap a couple pics of the trip.
It’s amazing how quick you can get out of bed and moving for a 6:30 start when there’s skiing to be done…..
We didn’t quite make it all the way up since I had an 8:30 meeting at work that we were cutting it close for. But, the view from midway was just about perfect. The sun was just peeking up over the summit of humphreys and casting a nice shadow on the mist around kendrick peak.
People often ask why I get up at 5:30 to hike up a ski area that you can buy a pass to and ride a lift up. That picture is a little bit of the reason.
The inner basin still looks a little thin according to the reports from James and tRoy, but there’s definitely skiing to be done, just get out your powder sniffer. Be careful out there and enjoy the weather.

Glad I’m not the only one who thought that skinning in that snow was slow….
