I had big plans for this weekend.

It was a long weekend, I felt as though it would have been criminal to not do something.

Hence, I should be serving time.

I was going to go to fruita, then moab, and finally, those plans turned into Gallup (as of tuesday night).

In the end, I rode thursday morning, stuffed myself at Kyle’s place thursday afternoon/evening, was a complete sack all day friday, and then rode in Sedona yesterday and today.

At least I got some good miles in sedona in.

Yesterday J-money and I headed down the canyon, and did the standard broken arrow/chicken point loop for a good 2 hours of riding. It was good to get my legs back into the sedona rhythm. Today, the Turbo AC and I headed down there. He showed up at my house with a 6 inch travel bike with a thru-axle in the front, and I pondered: what is he really planning on doing with that?

Lucky for me, Adam rides his 6-inch travel bike like a hardtail, and I have still not come to terms with the fact that my gunnar isn’t a 6-inch travel bike (and hence I ride it like one). Needless to say, we were well suited for each other speed-wise today. We got in a good 3 hours of riding, and made it up the hill in time for dinner.

I want to point out that I’ve started collecting events for next year in hopes of making some sort of decision about what races I want to do more than a week in advance (a la durango). I’m utilizing google calendar to keep track of all of them, and I embedded it in a page on the site (see the navigation bar at the top). Now, if anyone is wondering what sort of madness to put their legs through in arizona or surrounding areas, you can get some inspiration.

I’ll point out a couple of significant ones:

  • MBAA Dawn to Dusk Race – Coming up in just a week. Unfortunately, I’m starting down some large bills right now, and so I think I’m going to forgo this one (unless a sponsor wants to step up with $100 before thursday. . . yeah, right) Still, it looks like it would be a good time.

  • Single Swizzle 08 – I’ve evaluated the alternative (McDowell Mt. MBAA Race), and I think the money is going off to Dejay in a couple days.

  • Antelope Peak Challenge – This is part of a new series of races that I just found out about from BGR a couple days ago. It is put on by some guys organizing the Arizona Endurance Series. This one looks really fun (it’s 76 miles and 14 of those are on the 24 in the OP course. They also have a 100 miler starting from Macy’s coffee shop here in flag, going down to sedona, and back up. It’s appropriately called the Coconino Dirty Century. Seeing as it’s 2 days after my birthday, I will most likely be attending that one as a ‘celebration’ of sorts.

I signed up for the email lists for the New Mexico Endurance series and the Arizona Endurance series google groups, so as I get more events from those, I’ll add them to the calendar. As well, if you have any events you want posted, let me know, and I’ll throw them on there. You’ll notice I also put a couple non-bike related events on there for some semblance of balance (like some cool skiing stuff that t-roy just emailed me about). If you just want to see the biking stuff, you can click the little arrow in the upper right hand corner, and turn off everything not bike related.

Hopefully, I can keep up with this, and it will be somewhat useful to everyone involved.

On that note, I’m outta here, enjoy.
