DRM BS
Finally got my butt up and went for a ride yesterday and again this morning. Man, even 2 weeks off (with the exception of the fixie on occasion) can really make you start sucking wind bad. Oh well. I did get to get my “Stan’s NoTubes”:http://www.notubes.com installed and so far so good. I kinda wished I had them for the soul ride, it probably would’ve helped with those 6 flats. That’s alright, sedona riding season is coming in, which means lots of cacti just waiting to eat my tires, so hopefully that stan’s stuff really works. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just watch the videos on stan’s site, it’s pretty impressive.
Just picked up “this link about sony music”:http://www.cnet.com/4520-6033_1-6376177.html?tag=nl.e501 from dan over at “broken spoke”:http://brokenspoke.blogspot.com/2005/11/congrats-dury.html. That’s just about the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I have an ipod, I listen to music, I’ve even been known to download some ‘illegal’ music now and again, but lately I’ve been trying not to. I get stuff from friends, copy cds, but I try and make sure I at least know where it’s coming from, but I will never, ever, ever buy music from itunes, MS music, or any other place that restricts how and where you can listen to it. If I pay money for music, I want to be able to listen to it on either of my computers, windows or linux, my car’s MP3 cd player, my ipod, or burn it to a CD. When you pay for something, you should be able to actually use it. Ridiculous.
To that end, I’ll put in my plug for the only download music service I’ve found that I have any interest in supporting whatsoever. Check out “emusic”:http://www.emusic.com. $0.25 a song instead of the wallet-gouging $1. Mostly independant music, a great rating system for finding new stuff, and best of all, it’s all platform-independant, no DRM bullshit, MP3 files. Great quality, good selection, fairly inexpensive, and best of all no BS. Oh yeah, and if anyone is interested in trying it out, shoot me an email first at nathan (at) 3dmobility (dot) com, and I’ll send you an invitation (we both get some free songs if I refer you, and who doesn’t like free music?).
Alright, enough on soapbox for tonight. I should have something more interesting and less preachy once my new “KH20 trials unicycle”:http://www.unicycle.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=799 shows up (any day now….).
