I think this may have been the first time I was in moab this year. That is certainly a tragedy.

The trip was short, but sweet. I met up with the infamous Bobby on saturday morning and he took us shredding on the blue dot trail, which I had never done in its entirety.

In case you’ve never heard of it, it’s a piece of singletrack which basically parallels the Golden Spike and Gold Bar Rim trails. I’ve done pieces of it at various times over the past several years, but never from start to finish. This is mostly because it wasn’t well marked and the directions I’ve gotten in the past were vague at best.

This year, however, our moustached tour guide came through and we turned what can sometimes be described as a ’suffer-fest’ on the golden spike climb into a delightful little jaunt up the slickrock.

We took our time and did a lot of chilling along the way in between sections of trying to follow Bobby on his Meta 6. I kept up for the most part, with the exceptions of some of the bigger drops. I also decided to work a small section a couple times until I landed on my arm on the final attempt.

Fortunately, Scott caught a video of it so you can now witness me dropping my front wheel into a nice big gap in the rocks.

Good thing too, my wounds from Pines to the Mines were just starting to heal, so I needed some fresh blood.

After some advil, I was back in the swing and we finished off with a rip down Portal trail, which is still one of my all-time favorites.

Sunday we hit up Amasa Back with a return trip from the top via Rockstacker and Jackson’s. I’ve never done either of those trails before, and they were both amazing as well.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to moab, and it’s been even longer since I’ve done anything ‘new’ (to me) there, so this was a great weekend all around.
