I’ve been trying to limit my hard riding this last week in order to recover. I got in a couple good mountain rides, and a spin on the road bike per some suggestions from Dara, and I’m feeling pretty good. I still have some slight ass soreness, but I’m hoping that will go away in time for a good ride tomorrow.

I realized that I’m really bad at recovering, because it’s killing me to ride slow and ride less often. I tend to just go ride when I feel like it, and I ride hard until I’m tired. But, I feel like I’m in good shape now, and I want to do well in gunnison next weekend, so I’m forcing some recovery time. It’s a good exercise in discipline for me.

In my never ending quest to figure out a cool logo for handlebarsandwich, I have a new one for your consideration. I finally gave in to my engineering tendencies and abandoned all hope of utilizing some sort of graphic design skills for this endeavor. Instead I took a little time out of my work day earlier this week, and set about doing a little design work in Solidworks.

I give you the HS Chainring:

The beauty of this logo is that I actually built a solid model of it, and the picture is just an export of the solid model. I then decided to embrace my inner enginerd and make a CAD drawing of the ring. This ring is modeled after a White Industries ENO ring, but optimized to fit a nice wide 1/8” chain. I don’t think I quite get the spline exactly right in the middle, but if I got those measurements from White Industries this thing could potentially be machined from this drawing (maybe I’ll have to work on that. . . )

So, of course, the next logical step is to throw it on a t-shirt. So, embrace your inner engineer, and buy a t-shirt. I think the logo looks good on black or green, but you could try it on any ‘dark’ colored t-shirt as well. Here’s the zazzle link:

Finally, make sure you go outside for at least a few minutes on sunday night, it’s the Perseid Meteor Shower peak and it’s a new moon this year, so it should be pretty sweet.
