In case you weren’t on the distribution list for the crazy 88 email that I sent out last night, here it is:

Subject: Crazy 88 Last Minute Info!
I hope everyone is getting excited for the race this weekend! We’ve been having a nice monsoon season here in flag, so the course is going to be spectacular; lots of green and nice sticky trails.

First off, thanks to everyone for signing up! I have over 20 people confirmed, and depending on who else shows, there is a possibility of up to 35 racers! AWESOME!

Please feel free to pass this email along to anyone you think may be interested who isn’t on the list.

Camping
If you’re coming in from out of town, and want to camp, there is plenty of free camping along schultz pass road. I am going to camp out friday and saturday night at the Start/Finish, and you’re welcome to join me there or camp nearby. I am taking a couple EZ-up canopies up to the large spot off the south side of the Sunset parking lot (just go straight through the parking lot towards little gnarly, it’s on the left right before the gate) to reserve that spot for the start/finish and camping. It was still open today when I rode by, so I’m hoping it’ll be free tomorrow as well.

Schedule
Pre-race meeting is at 6:45 am sharp! Ride begins at 7am with a short lemans start (and I do mean short, I hate 2-mile lemans starts. . . )

Course
The course has been finalized for a few weeks now. If you haven’t gone to the website lately, (http://www.handlebarsandwich.com/crazy-88) go check it out. I have GPS files and cue sheets posted up there. I will probably be putting together a basic photocopied map for the back of the cue sheet, and I’ll have copies of all of it at the race in case you don’t want to print one out before saturday.

Aid Station
It’s looking like the aid station will be pretty basic, but should have everything you need to fuel back up. I’ll definitely have water and gatorade mix to drink. I’m not sure if I’ll mix up some gatorade or leave it up to you to pick your concentration, but it’ll be there. There will also be something salty (i.e. pretzels), something sweet (i.e. twizzlers), bananas, and something with a little bit of substance to it (i.e. PB&J sandwiches). There may be a couple surprise items out if I come up with something really awesome as well. If you want anything else, make sure to bring it and leave it at the start/aid station/finish. This includes gels, blocks, energy bars, or EPO syringes.

P.S. I am looking for somebody who isn’t racing who would be willing to chill out at the aid station, hand out goodies, and make sure people sign in. It would be a few hours starting around 10:30 and going until around 1:30/2:00. If you know of anyone, let me know.

Weather
We’re in monsoon season up here, so that means mild temperatures (highs in the 70s, lows in the 40s) and afternoon rain. Be prepared. ’nuff said.

BBQ
The important stuff! We will be BBQing after. My friends Chris and Mark have volunteered to take care of the BBQ, so they’ll be grilling it up for everyone. We’ll definitely have hot dogs, hamburgers, and baked beans. I’ll also probably pick up some salad of some sort (pasta or potato) and a few veggie burgers. If you need anything else, or would like to pitch in, you’re welcome to bring stuff to contribute. We’re gonna start cooking around 4pm, and go until everyone is fed or everything is gone!

Beer
Okay, I lied, THIS is the important stuff. I kegged 5 gallons of homebrew Irish Red tonight which will be on tap at the finish. In addition to that, we have 8 cases of New Belgium beer which will be available as well. That means we have 2944 ounces of delicious beer to consume, bring your A-game!

Ninja Stuff
Okay, since this is a ninja themed race, we have a time bonus at the beginning of the race. It was suggested that if you wear a ninja costume, you get a 88 second head start, and I like that idea. You get to run out 88 seconds ahead of everyone else and disappear into the wilderness never to be seen again. Hope your costume is aerodynamic. . . .

There may also be a couple other ninja-themed time bonuses, but you’ll just have to wait and see on those.

If anyone has any questions at all, please let me know. If not, we’ll see you saturday!

-Nathan
