So, first a bit of maintainence. 3dmobility is officially going to start forwarding to handlebarsandwich. End of story.

Did some bouldering today. Sick stuff out at buffalo park, which is exactly 3 minutes drive from downtown flag. On a side note, don’t EVER buy a Bittersweet crash pad. The foam flats out after about 2 months of use, and I recently took mine out, and 4 of the seams attaching the straps ripped off just under the weight of the pad. That’s after I’ve seam gripped about 4 other seams back together. Anyways, enough of a rant for now, just don’t give in to cheap crash pads, and get something worth it’s weight

Anyways, on to the meat. I’ve been doing a bit of mindless singlespeed surfing on the internet tonight, and found some cool stuff. First off, there are some sweet rides coming up here in AZ, colorado, and out in NY, and I’d really like to do what I can to get into shape on the singlespeed to ride them on it. Here’s the list so far:

Unfortunately, I won’t be doing the tour of the white mountains, because I’m headed out to the 24 hours in the adirondaks, but it should be a good time for all who are still back here. Frank is also trying to convince me to do the Durango Mtn. 100 but I’m not sure about that one, we’ll see how convincing he is. I mean really, it’s only 18,000+ feet of climbing, and 100 miles….. hmmm….

Thinking about all this riding has made me wonder if more than 50 miles in a single shot is doable on the singlespeed at this point. I figure Elden is about 2500 feet bottom to top, so I should climb it at least 3 times during the ride as well. That should get me close to 40 miles on it’s own.

I also stumbled across yet another SICK custom frame-builder, and I think this guy is going to give Vicious a run for the money as my fav builder. Enough suspense, the guy is Jeff Jones, and he runs Jones Bikes The guy used to build frames for GT in the heyday of their rule, and now lives up in Oregon and builds ridiculous custom titanium frames. Although, with a base price for a frame at $2600, I don’t think I’ll be getting one anytime soon. However, I would be interested in one of his H-Bars I remember riding Porpupine rim when we were out in Moab earlier this year, and seeing some guy tearing down the trail on a singlespeed surly, with a vicious front fork and an H-bar. I had no idea what it was at the time, and I have to admit I thought he had just taken a bar from an old cruiser or something and put it on his singlespeed. But, after seeing the Jones Bikes site, and reading the reviews on the bars, I’m ready to try one out on my singlespeed. I never thought about it before, but when I’m really cranking on the trek, I can definitely feel the (cheap OEM Tomac) handlebar flexing a lot. At $159 for a handlebar, I’ll have to think about it a bit more, but it looks like a really cool prospect.

Enjoy the ride.
