Miles and Smiles
My legs are sore, and that means the weekend was a success.
The first loop of the Crazy 88 is finalized. I’ll get the GPS track updated and some turn-by-turn directions up on the page when I get my ass in gear and the tracks downloaded from the garmin.
I rode the full first loop on saturday and started in on the second loop. It was raining for a good part of it, and picked up as I started onto the arizona trail heading east from town on loop 2. I bailed to the road and hoofed it back in when I realized that I was headed into ‘shorter vegetation’ section of the trail and saw lightning on the horizon.
I feel as though deciding not to be the tallest thing around in a lightning storm was probably a good call. I still got 65 miles in just getting back to town and home. Not a bad day on the bike.
For some sweet pics of the course, check out Dave’s post. Dave and Chad did the first loop as well, and were about an hour behind me on the way around.
I met up with them on sunday morning along with tRoy, Dara(+1) and Agnes. We had a nice little shred up lower moto and Yer Momma and back down secret, upper moto, and new secret. Dave, Chad, and I peeled off for a quick trip up little gnarly and down jedi, and I have to say, it was everything I could have wished for.
Some people go to church on sunday morning. I guess you could say I get my religion in a different way.
Amen.
Finally, I got an Irish Red all brewed up and in the fermenter this afternoon after the ride. The plan is to have it all finished up by the Crazy 88, so for those brave enough to tough it out, there should be a keg of quality homebrew at the finish line.
I think i’m gonna call it “HMS Red”. That stands for “Handle MotherF@#$@in Sandwich Red” in case you were wondering.
A good ride and some delicious beer, what more could you ask for?
