Hayes Comes Through
Tonights sponsor plug for the crazy 88 starts with a little story. A tale of social networking (since that seems to be the catchphrase lately).
As I’m sure you’re all well aware, I like to use twitter to update what’s going on in between larger events/rants/items which may warrant a post on this blog (and something more than 140 characters).
One of those ‘small’ items which didn’t make the blog was an annoyance with some Hayes Stroker Gram brakes that I had received for the new voodoo bike build. Turns out, I pulled one of the levers out of the box, and one of the set screws holding it on was crossthreaded. After a bit of diagnosing and stressing over my new brakes being messed up, I took it into the shop at work and carefully tapped it out. I was able to fix it without too much problem (although there was a fair bit of holding my breath as the first threads caught).
So, naturally, I updated my status on twitter to reflect the recent events.
Little did I know that Hayes has a twitter account, and evidently also does regular searches for posts which contain ‘hayes brakes’ even if they don’t utilize the @hayesbrakes tag.
They got a hold of me and offered a spare set of carbon levers to make up for the one that i ended up fixing. Score one for Hayes.
Being the opportunistic individual that I am, I promptly responded and asked them if they would be interested in throwing down for the Crazy 88 as well.
The box arrived today, and throw down they did.
Score 2 for Hayes.
You may be wondering what’s in the boxes in the center of the table. Allow me to enlighten you:
That would be a set of white Stroker Trail brakes.
That means somebody is gonna go home with a new set of hydraulic brakes from the race, which is pretty bitchin’ if you ask me.
It also means that 4 people are gonna go home with those absolutely amazing white hayes t-shirts with the BLING rotor design. I love it.
Thanks again to the guys at Hayes, especially Joel who took care of us. Keepin’ it real.
