So yesterday was the summer solstice and I used it like it was going out of style. I hooked up with these guys yesterday for one of their group rides in El Moro. It was sweet. One of the guys I was riding with felt like going and doing more while the sun was still up so I decided to head out with him. Since it was just us we hauled. We rode literally until the sun went down and the park rangers were announcing that the “PARK IS NOW CLOSING!!” over the loudspeakers. We were probably averaging 12mph for the last half hour. That includes a fairly long climb. This stuff helped me out once again. Tons of guys on the ride were rockin’ out the singlespeeds and convinced me to ease up on the gearing a little. They also directed me to The Path for all of my singlespeed/fixie needs. I need to check that place out since getting singlespeed/fixie stuff out here is about as easy as catching a jackrabbit blind and deaf with your bare hands…tied behind your back. Haven’t totally decided yet but I’m thinking of a 34X19 set up. Totally cool group of riders and I definitely plan on riding more with them.

Word out to Friedman for rocking it out in the Payson Stampede. I can’t wait to rock it out in the 24 Hours in the Sage. I need to ride my singlespeed alot more in the next few months so I can try to race with it.

Speaking of 24 hour races and singlespeeds. I was in Taos last week for a wedding. Awesome wedding, cool guy, total blast. I was chillin’ with Hoss, the guy who origionally got me interested in singlespeeding, and he mentioned throwing together a team for the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo. Supposedly that race is superb for singlespeeds. Supposedly Hoss is also a friend of Big Jonny. He told me all sorts of stories of the drunkenness that goes on when that guy is involved. Something about leather chaps, mountain bikes, and pool tables at an old cowboy bar. He mentioned Big Jonny after he noticed my Livewrong bracelet. We then got into a talk about how everyone assumes that the whole Livewrong thing is pro-cancer and everyone who wears one is evil. Now I don’t feel as if I have to defend myself everytime I wear it. If you are unwilling to accept the fact that it is not a bad/evil thing then piss off and don’t bother me with your intolerable stupidity. I know, I know, enough with the rant aready.

Heading out to Hawaii on friday. Hitting up the island of Maui for around 5 days. Supposedly there are some good trails there. In particular the Skyline Trail. Might have to rent me a downhill bike and hit that trail up. If not I could just hang out at the beach like everyone else. Maybe there is some bouldering out there or something. There might even be a bit of deep water solo problems. I’ll figure something out. PEACE!!
