Bugs and Bike to Work Week
Anybody else got a little 24 hour bug that’s been going around? I certainly picked up something on saturday which hit me full bore by that evening. Saturday morning I went on the group ride, came back, had some lunch, ran a couple errands and then *BAM*, I was pretty much incapacitated.
No appetite, cold chills, cold sweat, every part of my body ached from head to toe. I was out of commision, and worst of all, missed the “shindaggers show”:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=68604397.
This morning I felt moderately better and so I hauled a small carload of stuff down to the “bike swap”:http://flagstaffbiking.org/bike-to-work-week/bike-bazaar-parade/ at heritage square. A couple hours of peddling my wares and a big bottle of gatorade later, and I wasn’t feeling 100%, but I was a lot better than the 10% I was the night before.
At the bike swap I got rid of some stuff that’s been lying around the bike room for a while, but also had a chance to walk around and see some other folks that I haven’t seen in a bit. I spent a few minutes talking with Josh, who runs “Wandertec”:http://www.wandertec.com/ and the “Bike Trailer Shop”:http://biketrailershop.com/catalog/index.php. We chatted a bit about my big dummy and some cool accessory options he has seen coming down the pipeline. Turns out he also runs a blog about (you guessed it) “bike trailers”:http://biketrailerblog.com/ and pointed me towards his “interbike post from last year”:http://biketrailerblog.com/2007/10/xtracycle-at-interbike/. The one I’m really excited about is the new centerstand that xtracycle is supposed to be coming out with. Josh said it hasn’t come out yet, but he’ll have it on his store the second it does.
I went on a nice ride this afternoon with Turbo AC, FKR, Raney, Shawn, and a dude named Dave. It was a bit longer than I expected, but I’m hoping it burnt off the rest of whatever was crushing my system.
As a public service announcement, consider this your official reminder to ride to work this week. That’s right, it’s “bike to work week”:http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/bikemonth/ and the “worksite challenge”:http://flagstaffbiking.org/bike-to-work-week/worksite-challenge/ in flag this year is monday thru thursday (not just wednesday as in years past).
So get off your ass and ride already. As if the “price of gas”:http://www.gasbuddy.com/ isn’t enough of a motivator. . .
