If anyone out here in arizona-new mexico area has ever thought of doing a 24 hour race but thought it was a bit much to jump right into it, there is a race for you this weekend. The Dawn-to-Dusk race is this coming weekend in Gallup, NM. It is a 12 hour mountain bike race, and it looks like a cool course. It’s only a $40 fee if you register by this tuesday (4th) and it’s only 50 bux by this friday.

I am thinking of trying to do it, but I’m not sure if I’ll still be riding the trek this coming weekend or not. I’ve been having some issues with the seals on my fork on the trek, namely, they don’t work anymore (see picture at right). My new frame shipped from Gunnar on friday, but I’m not sure what components I’ll have and what I’ll still be missing by this weekend. If I have the new bike together, I’ll probably try to make it down there, if not, well, we’ll see…

Went on a couple good rides in sedona this weekend. Kai took me out on some stuff I had never ridden before, and we were out for almost 4 hours on the singlespeeds, with about 10 minutes of time not spent riding the bikes in that amount of time. It was pretty freaking crazy. I went out with Dan today, and we rocked out for a nice couple hour ride. I feel like I’m finally getting a feel for the trails in sedona enough to link together some nice loops. It’s a bit tougher there than flag, because there are more short trails interrupted by roads, rather than the endless off-road experiences you can have up here in the pines. Either way, a day on the bike is a good day.

I know this isn’t really my cup of tea, because I don’t own a road bike, but I’m always a fan of cool technology related to biking, so here’s a couple interesting links for the day. First are the Hed 47 lb descending wheels Remember, that’s 47 lbs PER WHEEL. The second is a super-light frame made using carbon fiber and carbon nanotubes Really cool technology because the ONLY thing on this frame that is not made from carbon is the alloy insert for the threaded BB shell. That brings the weight down to 2.1 lbs for a full road frame. Damn. Ponder that for a moment, and get back to me…...
