I agree, the bigger races seem to attract the bigger a-holes. Same reason I stopped riding most XC races.

i did the 24 hour race at Moab a few years ago and boyitellyouwhat, it’s hard to understand why it costs over $300. there is no aide, food, etc. you get to camp in a dust bowl of cow burned desert choked with tumble weeds.

i’ve never helped organize a race so i can not appreciate how hard it must be get all the crap together, obtain permits, insurance, HR, marketing, and database stuff. i suppose they’re just trying to make it their full time job and earn a living at it.

interesting how the biggest, most expensive races seem to attract an element i find less desirable too.

all praise clandestine bicycles races – where the price is right!!

Those look like some cool events for sure, very low key, but what looks like some really fun events. Very ‘pre-commercialized’ feel to it. I like the handmade prizes.

That is why I support Vic’s Team Bigfoot events (www.teambigfoot.net) in Nor Cal. Oregon’s only endurance race is $246. I am working at fixing that…

then again, you could just buy an entry to old pueblo, and still have enough left over for beer and strippers. can’t imagine the beer and strippers are all that good in utah anyways. . . . .
