Guest Blogging a.k.a. Shameless Self Promotion
I have to say, when I posted the link to the Mountain Hard Wear blog a couple days back, I just thought it was a passing item. Something to check every now and again, maybe even add it to Google Reader and keep tabs on the occasional outdoor happening.
However, not long after, I got a very short, but interesting email:
Hi Nathan!
I’m low on blog material this week. Want to write a piece?Cynthia *****
Marketing Department
Mountain Hardwear
It was official. Mountain Hard Wear’s athletes are all out in the wilderness somewhere, doing something that we all dream about, most likely even making a video or slideshow of it so we can all watch them later and just shake our heads, and thus, there was nothing to write about. When peering into the barrel of blog material, there was something sitting in the dark recesses . . . and that item . . . was HandlebarSandwich.
So, I sat down last night to spend just a little extra time on a post, more tailored to the climbing/mountaineering/skiing community that most likely frequents the Hardwear Sessions. Something with appeal (right), something with literary content (ha!), and mostly, something to back up some sweet pictures that J-money and I have collected over our days in the backcountry this year.
So, in short, I give you my first ‘guest blogging’ experience:
Powder Hunting in Cactus Country By Nathan Friedman
If you’re reading this because you frequent my blog, please click through and take a read.
If you’re reading this because you came from the link on the MHW blog, welcome to my little corner of the web. You have come to a place of obsessions. A place of long singlespeed rides, long human-powered powder shots, and late nights of doing nothing in particular of worth on my computer after I’m all worn out from the day.
Enjoy.

Very nice! Must be rewarding to get some notice and respect from a big business blog. Not a bad piece of literature either.

Nathan is evil!
But yes, all the athletes are out doing something awesome.
FYI guys—I knew Nathan back when he used to wear Umbro shorts (those shiny, baggy nylon things—like these: http://www.amazon.com/Umbro-Low-Shorts-Navy-White/dp/B000EE5SZO) and a t-shirt with a chocolate lab on it. He thought that was style.

I don’t know about the respect thing, but notice, sure that’ll work.
I will be collecting on those free beers, no question about it.
And yes, I used to wear those shorts, somehow I’ve morphed from that to spanditos. As expected, I still have no sense of style, and probably never will. At least my clothes have been fairly functional all these years.
You blew my cover of actually getting noticed by some sort of big company. But I guess that goes to show yet again that it’s not what you know, but more importantly, who you know.

Super cool to see Flagstaff and the drive up from Fenix through the eyes of someone who hasn’t lived here their whole life, and has that deep appreciation for the ruggedness the state has to offer. It’s a wild place we live in, and adventures abound.
