I hope ya’ll had a good new years. Mine was, well, lets just say it was entertaining. This picture was around 9:30, about an hour (and the last half of the bottle I’m holding) before going downtown.
I’ll let your imagination fill in the details.
I’ll give you a hint, the stuff in the bottle is neon green.
More importantly, did you get registered for “SSWC08″:http://www.sswc08.com/ at 12am PST? Because the rumor is that me, M Rizzle, and the 398 other people who registered in the first 7 minutes should have a pretty decent chance (as long as I didn’t jump the gun and actually do it at 11:59). The rest of you? Well, none us will know for sure for another few days according to the site.
We shall see.
Pre-new years involved a ride in sedona with M. Rizzle, Johnny B, the Turbo AC, and other various individuals whom we met along the way from flag. It was flagstaff appreciation day on girdner trail, where were you?
I also got a day of skiing in with Dara, T-Troy, Ryan, Japhy, and Shredder on sunday. We rocked up into lockett meadow, up to the IB, and took a look around. On the way up, we quickly noted that everything which was south facing was sun crusted, and everything north facing was windblown. Therefore, we promptly threw out Plan A (aspen chute), threw out Plan B (south facing glades east of aspen), skipped right over considering Plan C (ask T-Roy, I don’t even know what it was), and ended up skiing the north facing glades on Doyle just west of Sickle Moon.
Eureka: a forest full of glorious powder.
There is always powder to be found, you just have to know where to look. Fortunately, T-Roy has a nose like a bloodhound for that sort of thing. I haven’t been disappointed yet on a trip with him.
We broke them Reno kids in right.
I’ve been back on the rollers in the morning, but haven’t had the motivation to get out after work. The “singleswizzle”:http://drunkcyclist.com/wordpress/2008/01/03/singlespeed-arizona-2008/ is looming closer, and it is going to be a pain train for me unless I get my ass in gear the next couple weeks. Luckily, alcohol and the “shindaggers”:http://www.myspace.com/theshindaggers on saturday night should help ease the pain.
It’s still getting dark around 5:25 here, which kills the motivation after work for riding outside. But, according to the “farmers almanac”:http://www.almanac.com, we are gaining a full minute a day for the next few days. Luckily it’s all at the end of the day. I’ll be back on the bike up here in no time. . . or something like that.
Last night was a knock-down, drag-out hacking session of “Open3600″:http://open3600.fast-mail.nl/, “Python”:http://www.python.org, and “SQL”:http://www.mysql.com. The result of which is python script which downloads data from my new weather station every 5 minutes, dumps it to a local database, and also uploads data to “weather underground”:http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KAZFLAGS26. I still have some plans to bring to fruition which will upload to this site in that same fell swoop every 5 minutes, but I didn’t get around to that yet.
It was still about 5 hours of programming, debugging, and final tweaking.
Sounds like fun, right? Of course it does.
Finally, “Silverton”:http://www.silvertonmountain.com is a definite go for this weekend. Snow is predicted, and the nack-attack and I are heading up tomorrow after work. We have a hotel room in the swanky “Grand Imperial Hotel”:http://www.grandimperialhotel.com/ for what could only be considered “dirty cheap” compared to “other ski towns”:http://tellurideskiresort.com/TellSki/hot-deals.aspx. There’s plenty of floor space, so if you want to go ski some lift-service backcountry and huck some big cliffs, grab a sleeping bag and gimmie a call. The bus (station wagon) rolls out at ~3:30pm from flagstaff, and we got a couple empty seats.
Don’t forget a change of underwear, you “might need it”:http://www.silvertonmountain.com/gallery/index.php?gallery=December%20%208%20%26%209%202007&image=Barneyairweb12-09-07.jpg.
